This event is open to Gwent qualified players only.
The Gwent Closed championship will be held on the weekend of Friday 25th April to Sunday 27th April.
The event will be held at Sebastopol Social Club where Pontypool play their home matches.
Playing Section (open to Gwent qualified players only)
Open section only (this will incorporate the best Gwent player under 1700 as well). Entries are limited to 24 players.
Round Dates and Times
Incremental times are used so afternoon rounds may start later. Players are entitled to a minimum 30 minute break between rounds.
Round 1 – Friday 25th April 2025 – 19:15
Round 2 – Saturday 26th April 2025 – 10:00
Round 3 – Saturday 26th April 2025 – 14:00
Round 4 – Sunday 27th April 2025 – 10:00
Round 5 – Sunday 27th April 2025 – 14:00
Entry Fees
Adults £12
Juniors (Under 18 on 1-9-2024) £8.
Entries submitted after 23rd April 2025 will incur a surcharge of £2.
Please make cheques made payable to “Gwent County Chess Association”.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for at least the first two places in each section (open and U1700). The prize amounts will be based on entries and announced on the second day. Grading prizes may be awarded, dependant on entries.
Time control
All moves in 1hr 15 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds added per move
Byes
Players may take one ½ point bye in the first four rounds, provided it is requested with entry
Rules
- In all matters, the controllers decision is final.
- Players must have paid the entry fee by the start of the second round.
- The organisers reserve the right to refuse, transfer entries or combine the events.
- The FIDE rules of chess apply including Mobile Phones – event is Non FIDE rated.
- Late arrivals will be allowed 1 hour on their clocks before being defaulted.
- The January 2025 WCU grading list will be used throughout the tournament.
- Smoking is prohibited in the venue.
- Players must be members of a club within the Gwent Chess Association, or pay the Gwent County Chess Association fee (£4) and qualified under the Gwent Chess Association rules for Closed Competitions – Please check with the organiser if you are unsure about qualification eligibility.
