Gwent Closed 2024

This event is open to Gwent qualified players only.

The Gwent Closed championship will be held on the weekend of Friday 31st May to Sunday 2nd June.

The even will be held at Sebastopol Social Club where Pontypool play their home matches.

Sections

  1. Open                             
  2. Major (Under 1600) – (This will be played only if there are sufficient entries. If the sections are merged and you do not then want to play then you will be entitled to a full refund)

Round Dates and Times

Round 1 – Friday 31st May 2024 – 19:15

Round 2 – Saturday 1st June 2024 – 10:00

Round 3 – Saturday 1st June 2024 – 14:00

Round 4 – Sunday 2nd June 2024 – 10:00

Round 5 – Sunday 2nd June 2024 – 14:00

Entry Fees

Adults £12

Juniors (Under 18 on 1-9-2023) £8

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for at least the first two places in each section. The prize amounts will be based on entries and announced on the second day. Grading prizes may be awarded, dependant on entries.

Time control

All moves in 1hr 15 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds added per move

Byes

Players may take one ½ point bye in the first four rounds, provided it is requested with entry

Rules

  1. In all matters, the controllers decision is final.
  2. The organisers reserve the right to refuse, transfer entries or combine the events.
  3. The FIDE rules of chess apply including Mobile Phones – event is Non FIDE rated.
  4. Late arrivals will be allowed 1 hour on their clocks before being defaulted.
  5. The January 2024 WCU grading list will be used throughout the tournament.
  6. Smoking is prohibited in the venue.
  7. Players must be members of a club within the Gwent Chess Association, or pay the Gwent County Chess Association fee (£4) and qualified under the Gwent Chess Association rules for Closed Competitions – Please check with the organiser if you are unsure about qualification eligibility.
